June 29 FOMENT – the word of the day
Jun 29th
foment |ˈfōˌment; fōˈment|
verb [ trans. ]
1 instigate or stir up (an undesirable or violent sentiment or course of action) : they accused him of fomenting political unrest. See note at incite .
2 archaic bathe (a part of the body) with warm or medicated lotions.
Found it hard to return to writing this. I was swamped before I went on tour with Prince Perry and felt removed when I returned.
And of course, the longer I put it off, the harder it was to come back to it.
So, baby steps. Today was almost a day off. Started at 8am to chip away at a few projects. Got a call from home and had to return a little early. I did manage to open up a session with tracks from another studio for Tyler Benedict. Did a little editing and setting up of the levels to ballpark a previous mix made by another engineer. Set up a mic and the Yamaha organ and got down to it. Managed a couple of decent clapping takes (tone, tone, tone – oh and time!) and some light organ pads. Not sure what worked if any of it. And then it ended. Too soon. My plans to work on Clara Engels EP and Joy Thompson’s song were dashed, but I was falling behind anyway.
Later, I was on errands, picked up some books for A., a natural drain cleaner (does that mean it won’t work?) and began reading To Kill A Mockingbird aloud.

I’ve jumped ahead because I was pretty far behind. The last month has been getting crazier and crazier. Naturally the words of the day were the first thing to go. But out of respect I’d like to list the neglected mots du jour. In order, frisson, inure, ennui, plenary, entreat, equivocate, sinecure, vainglory, quondam and protean. What exciting things have happened in that time? Many rehearsals, shows with Prince Perry, Tamara Williamson, Clara Engel, Heavy Generator and Sound One. Sessions with Bruno Capinan, Melanie Peterson and Joy Thompson along with mixing for Donalyn and Ty Benedict.
Today was a decent rehearsal with Kirsten in preparation for a show this Friday night at Dora Keogh (Broadview and Danforth).

Took my kid to the TSO again, this time it was a evening concert of Holst: The Planets. An excellent performance. The first half of the program featured brass and woodwinds strategically placed throughout the hall. A feast for the ears.

Today I had a vocal session with Melanie Peterson. Wrote and recorded a new song for a submission. Felt like I was buying a lottery ticket. But I like the new song, got to play some pump organ on the recording. I’m not very good at it, but it’s one of those parts that sits very comfortably in the back of the mix. Spent time working on Prince Perry songs – learning them – lots of new material and we had a rehearsal with 4/5 of the band. Feeling it slowly glue together.
